Proposed “BRAIN TRAIN” Act Would Significantly Expand Intercity Passenger Rail - May 29, 2020
Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), a member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee and the Environment and Public Works Committee, announced on Friday May 29, 2020 introduction of the Building Rail Across Intercity Networks To Ride Around Interior of the Nation (BRAIN TRAIN) Act. This legislation if passed by the US Congress would authorizes $5 billion annually, for a total of $25 billion over five years, to invest in “high-performance” intercity passenger rail service that will connect communities within a state, across states, and around the country. According to the bill high-performance rail means passenger rail service that will enhance transportation capacity, travel times, reliability, and efficiency. Chairman Richard E.
